Band
Kanseil are a folk metal band born in 2010 in Fregona, in the Veneto region of Italy. They take their name from the Cansiglio highland and the forest it holds.
The band matches early medieval melodies and traditional folk sounds from all over Europe with death and black metal riffs, played on bagpipes, whistles, bouzouki and kantele next to guitars and drums. Their songs collect the stories and legends of their land.
Tzimbar Bint, the first self-produced demo, came out in 2013. In 2014 the band joined Nemeton Records, which released the debut album Doin Earde in May 2015. Between 2014 and 2016 Kanseil played more than 60 shows in Italy and eastern Europe, sharing the stage with Korpiklaani, At The Gates, Enslaved, Folkstone, Omnia, Arkona and Månegarm among others.
The second album, Fulìsche, was recorded in January 2018 at New Sin Studio (Loria) and released on 25 May 2018 by RockShots Records. It was followed in 2020 by Cant del corlo, an acoustic EP about the seasons of life.
In 2023 Kanseil signed with Bagana B District Music and released the singles Antares and Hrodgaud, both with official videos. The third album, Vaia, came out in 2024, together with the videos for Rivus Altus and Haereticalia.
Bagpiper Luca Zanchettin builds his own instruments; he shares his work as Gefaiva Bagpipes.
